Why Attend?

A number of your clients are currently collecting or using spatial data without knowing it. Other clients may not understand legal risks that arise due to the unique qualities of spatial data. Several attorneys who regularly work with these issues will share their experiences and insights into:

What is spatial data and what are some unique attributes from a legal standpoint?

Issues to consider when licensing or transferring spatial data, including:

                        • intellectual property rights

                        • representations and warranties, and

                        • the rules of metadata

What privacy laws apply with respect to spatial data, and what steps are being taken at the state, federal and international level to protect spatial privacy?

Practical approaches to limiting a client’s potential liability to consumers.

Invest just 60 minutes at your home or office to learn what’s new in the broad field of Internet security from these professionals. This audio program comes to you live on November 4th, via your phone or home computer. Materials corresponding to the course may be downloaded or viewed online. The format will allow for questions to be put to the panel during the program via email.

What You Will Learn

Companies have begun to realize the value of data that is tied to a location for business intelligence as well as for consumer applications. Unfortunately, the legal and policy communities have not kept pace with the proliferation of this “spatial data”. Therefore, spatial data is presenting a number of challenges to attorneys, particularly in the areas of data ownership, privacy and liability. This one-hour presentation will help attorneys identify important issues associated with the client’s spatial data and discuss the current state of federal, state and international law with regard to these matters.
