Another interesting aspect of the internet is the availability of strange and interesting content about intellectual property. Some of the weirdest information is straight from various patent offices.
Crazy Patentshttp://www.crazypatents.com/
This archives "crazy patents". Patents are categorized by topic.
Totally Absurd Inventionshttp://www.totallyabsurd.com/

Patently Absurdhttp://www.patent.freeserve.co.uk/
Similar to totally Absurd Inventions, this is a catalogue of wacky British patents. It also contains a section on international patents that do not quite classify as fabulous inventions. The website also contains some useful information on patents generally, though mainly applicable only in the UK. It does have a good list of resources for searching patents, however.
Patent of the Weekhttp://www.patentoftheweek.com/
This is another weekly-updated bizarre patent site; however, the reader can also browse by historical period to see unusual and influential patents of yesteryear.
Here are some other sites with some entertainment value and an IP theme (Disclaimer: some content may be offensive).

Metasearch Engines
Given the size of the internet, searching for needed information can be a daunting task. While traditional search engines such as http://www.google.com or http://www.yahoo.com have made the job easier, a new form of searching has evolved to make finding what you need faster and more precise. Metasearches combine the results of several search engines and allow you to be more precise in your search terms. They allow the user to search both in natural language in using Boolean terms to create better searches.
However, some people find Metasearch engines to cumbersome than useful. Perhaps the adage "less is more" may be appropriate in discarding the potential of some Metasearch engines. For commentary in this vein, visit UC Berkeleys commentary on Metasearching at http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/MetaSearch.html.
Ixquickhttp://ixquick.com
Ixquick is a very comprehensive metasearch with instructions on how to search and how to improve searches, as well as features to search other languages. You can search the web generally or news, graphics, or mp3s. It finds sites that match your terms and ranks them on relevance. One you select a linked hit, Ixquick takes you to that site while keeping its own bar at the top. This bar contains a drop-down menu with all the results from the search, so you can easily jump from hit to hit.
Vivisimohttp://vivisimo.com/
Vivisimo also analyzes the results of several search engines to produce its hit list, but it is most famous for its clustering function. Every search will return a navigable menu of categories under which it classifies the hits. For example, a search for "intellectual property law" generates several subcategories, such as "law firms," "research," "universities," and "rights."
Surfwax http://www.surfwax.com
Surfwax is for serious searching, and it requires more skill in writing searches. In the end, however, it is one of the best metasearch engine. It provides a search of some of the better search engines.
